Crain Ranch Case Study

Crain Ranch

Challenge

Industry leading, Crain Ranch of California is giant in worldwide export of In-shell Walnuts. The pack and ship window is about 2 months thus seasonal labor is truly “make or break”. Labor acquisition, rising wage and over reliance on strong-back labor was a pinch point for growth. They also wanted to palletize 90” wide pallets as to speed up container loading. They needed a palletizing system that could handle two bagging/sewing lines feeding this single palletizer at a rate of 30 tons per hour. The need:

Solution

The solution called for a traditional high level palletizer. Bags exited the existing bagging/sewing lines merged into a single bag elevator conveyor to a traditional high level palletizer. The palletizer was fed by the elevator belt on top to deliver bags but two way conveyance at the base to transport pallets in and out of the stacking chamber. A pallet de-nester and automated slip sheet applicator kept the flow going while outbound pallet accumulation conveyance allowed for full pallet staging. The operational goals were met.
