Challenge – CHS Ag Services in Oregon is a multi-location full service ag. company. One of their facilities in Oregon was plagued with excessive labor cost and fork lift traffic resulting from their seed blending operation. Although the project included 5 palletizers and bagging lines CHS and Byron knew that was only part of the problem. The crux was to eliminate the over reliance of shuttling bagged product throughout their campus. Project Goals:
Solution – With over 1000 feet of overhead conveyance linking multiple buildings we were able to reduce the product shuttle staff by 7 full time forklifts and operators. The product scanning ensured the conveyance delivered the correct product to the correct palletizer. Designed for both bags and boxes the system allowed for ultimate flexibility. A rotary arm wrapper system and pallet accumulation allow for warehouse buffering. Combined labor savings was 17 full time positions.
